The 2025 Chinese Buddhist Sutra Lecture Exchange Tour in Xi'an

The Xi'an stop of the 2025 Chinese Buddhist Sutra Lecture Exchange Tour was organized by the Buddhist Association of China with support from the Buddhist Association of Shaanxi Province and the Chinese Buddhist Sutra Exchange Center. On April 23, the event was hosted by the Buddhist Association of Xi'an at Daxingshan Temple, the ancestral home of Vajrayana.

Joining the event were Master Changshun from the Buddhist Association of China, Master Kuanxu and Benchang from the Buddhist Association of Shaanxi Province, Master Kuanyan from the Buddhist Association of Baoji, Master Zhaoxue from the Famen Temple Buddhist Academy, along with over one hundred Buddhist disciples, who gathered to take part in a Dharma feast.

Master Jingji from the Buddhist Academy of China centered his teachings on the Amitabha Sutra, discussing the study of Humanistic Buddhism. He highlighted the importance of the three provisions: faith, aspiration, and practice. By seamlessly integrating the Pure Land thought with humanistic Buddhist concepts, he encouraged the audience to reflect deeply on life, death, and liberation.

Master Shancheng from the Erzu Kuangjiao Temple in Hebei focused on the Avalokiteshvara Universal Gate Sutra, exploring the contemporary relevance of viewing sentient beings through a humanistic lens. He taught how to cultivate equanimity and great compassion in today’s information age, transforming Bodhisattva wisdom into positive energy for social harmony.

Master Wandi from Jile Temple in Harbin used The Sutra on the Mahāyāna Practice of the Six Perfections to interpret the study of Humanistic Buddhism. By analyzing the ultimate meaning of the Three Jewels, he highlighted the essence of taking refuge in awareness, righteousness, and purity, addressing the needs of modern society.

Master Miaoliang from Lianhua Ancient Temple in Changchun, drawing from the Sutra on the Buddhas Bequeathed Teaching, articulated the concept of frugality in Humanistic Buddhism. He guided the audience on how to maintain their spiritual home despite the tide of consumerism.

During the interactive Q&A session, the audience actively asked many questions, creating a lively atmosphere. The masters skillfully combined Buddhist wisdom with real-life issues, responding to the audience’s concerns in an accessible manner, which received continuous applause.
