On September 21, under the theme “Promoting Sinicization and Illuminating the World with Wisdom,” the 2025 Chinese Buddhist Sutra Lecture Exchange opened in Qingzhou, Shandong Province. The event aims to promote nationwide study and interpretation of Buddhist classics, inspire Buddhist masters and staff to follow the precepts as their guide, diligently practice the Threefold Training and guide lay Buddhists toward right faith and right conduct. It also seeks to advance contemporary Humanistic Buddhism, propel the Sinicization of Buddhism in China, and strengthen governance over religious affairs.
The President of the Buddhist Association of China Venerable Yanjue attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks.
Venerable Yanjue noted that expounding the Dharma is a vital vehicle for the effective transmission of Buddhism, a central measure for systematically promoting the Sinicization of Buddhism in China, and an important path for guiding people toward virtue and fostering social harmony. In China’s more than two thousand years of Buddhist history, generations of Dharma teachers have upheld the great vow to benefit sentient beings by studying the Tripitaka and explaining the scriptures, so that the Dharma is propagated for the wellbeing of all. Through their hard work, they have forged a noble tradition in Chinese Buddhism of honoring, studying, practicing, and propagating the classics.
The event is organized by the Buddhist Association of China, co-organized by the Shandong Buddhist Association and the Chinese Buddhist Sutra Exchange Center, and co-hosted by the Weifang Buddhist Association, Qingzhou Buddhist Association, and Guangfu Temple in Qingzhou. Over the four-day period, 28 Buddhist masters, selected and recommended by Buddhist associations from 25 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions as well as by the Buddhist Academy of China, will conduct lectures and exchanges around five topics: faith in Humanistic Buddhism, causality, practice and study of Buddhism, sentient beings, and frugality.
