On the afternoon of June 8, the 16th session (2026) of the “Zhi Jiang Wen Dao” (Exploring the Way along Zhijiang)–Prajna Lecture series hosted by the Zhejiang Buddhist Association—opened at the Association’s headquarters. Venerable Master Guangquan, President of the Zhejiang Buddhist Association and Abbot of Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, delivered a lecture titled Rigorous Monastic Governance, Frugality and Anti-Extravagance: Deepening the “Study the Regulations, Observe the Precepts, Focus on Practice, and Build a Positive Image” Campaign in Religious Circles.
Venerable Master Guangquan offered an in-depth analysis of the contemporary imperative for rigorous monastic governance and a culture of frugality over extravagance. He traced the doctrinal foundations and historical legacy of these principles within Buddhist scriptures, and systematically elaborated on the practical measures to strengthen rigorous governance and advance the Sinicization of Buddhism in China.
Venerable Master Guangquan further noted that Buddhist communities across the country are currently carrying out the educational campaign “Study the Regulations, Observe the Precepts, Focus on Practice, and Build a Positive Image,” which further clarifies the contemporary significance of rigorous monastic governance and frugality, positioning them as key drivers for advancing the Sinicization of religions in China and nurturing outstanding religious talent. Zhejiang’s Buddhist community should seize this opportunity to integrate the campaign’s requirements into daily practice, scriptural study, and temple management, continually strengthening self-development, resolutely resisting extravagance and ostentation, preserving Buddhism’s purity and authenticity, elevating the quality of the Saṅgha, fostering a positive social image for Buddhism, and promoting the healthy transmission of Buddhism in Zhejiang.
