On 28 July 2026, the 20th anniversary of the passing of the late Abbot Venerable Master Muyu, Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou held a commemorative Dharma service to honor the eminent monk’s noble virtue and exemplary life dedicated to propagating the Dharma for the liberation of sentient beings.
At around 8 a.m., the monastic community of both orders gathered at Yueheng Hall (Patriarch Hall). The Abbot of Lingyin Temple Venerable Guangquan officiated the ceremony with incense offerings. The assembly chanted sutras together, dedicating the merits to Venerable Master Muyu: may he ascend to a higher lotus rank, attain perfect liberation, and, out of his compassionate vows, return among sentient beings.

Over the seventy years spanning his tonsure and his passing, Venerable Master Muyu devoted his entire life to the cause of Buddhism. He integrated the Buddha's spirit of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity into his daily life. He often gave teachings encouraging sentient beings to love the country and uphold Buddhism, make offerings to the Three Jewels, perform good deeds, and cultivate karmic merit. His extraordinary contributions to Buddhism earned him deep respect from Buddhist communities both at home and abroad. Though Venerable Master Muyu has departed this world, his noble spirit and virtuous legacy will endure forever, inspiring and encouraging future generations to follow the Buddha's path, forge ahead diligently, adorn the land, and bring benefit and joy to all sentient beings.
