5th LBCF Held to Mark the 108th Anniversary of Master Juzan’s Birthday

On May 28, 2016, the 5th Lingyin Buddhist Culture Forum(LBCF) was held to mark the 108th anniversary of Master Juzan’s birthday at Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou. Over fifty experts and scholars from across the country participated in this academic forum. Distinguished guests included the Religious Department Director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, Mr. Hu Shengjun; the Monastery Supervisor of Lingyin Temple Venerable Kuoren; and the Vice Dean of Hangzhou Buddhist Academy Venerable Gangxiao. Venerable Huiguan from Lingyin Temple hosted the opening ceremony.

Venerable Kuoren gave a introduction of Master Juzan’s life and his achievements with Lingyin Temple and Buddhism in Hangzhou. Mr. Hu Shengjun from the Department of Religious Affairs also spoke to the spirited audience, as did the representative for the panel of experts and scholars and Professor, Chen Jian, followed by the representative speaker for special guests, Mr. Ji Hongdu .

This Lingyin Buddhist Culture Forum centered the panel discussions on the Buddhist thoughts of Master Juzan from perspectives of intellectual history, text interpretation, and the integration of Buddhist studies and practices. The thorough effort intends to carry out a detailed research into the influence of Master Juzan on Lingyin Temple, Buddhism in Hangzhou, and even Buddhism in modern China.
