On September 9, 2016, a symposium was held in Beijing to commemorate Master Juzan and his spirit of being dedicated to Buddhism and the country on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.
Over 50 government officials, experts, scholars and representatives from the Buddhist community participated in the symposium, including Deputy Director of State Administration for Religious Affairs of P.R.C. Jiang Jianyong, Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan, Professor Lou Yulie from Department of Religious Studies, Peking University, to name just a few. Deputy Director of China Ethnic News Yang Lianfu presided over the symposium.
Deputy Director Jiang Jianyong, Ven. Guangquan and Professor Lou Yulie all gave a speech at the symposium. Ven. Guanquan gave a brief account of Master Juzan’s life and his connection with Lingyin Temple and Buddhism in Hangzhou. He said, “We commemorate and sing the praises of Master Juzan, of his patriotism, his pioneering spirit and his noble and selfless endeavor to set a good role model for the world. We should inherit the legacy of eminent Buddhist masters, earnestly love the country and the religion, and follow the tradition of acting with compassion and apply the wisdom of humanistic Buddhism to every facet of life so as to make contribution for the development of Buddhism, for the construction of a harmonious society and for the realization of the China Dream.”
Other participants also gave speeches on Master Juzan’s life and his great contribution for Buddhism, education and academic studies. Some participants highlighted Master Juzan’s spirit of being dedicated to Buddhism and the country, and his profound influence on Lingyin Temple, Buddhism in Hangzhou and modern China.
