Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan Invited by University of British Columbia to Give Themed Speech

On June 21, 2017, Vice Secretary General of The Buddhist Association of China, Vice Chairman of The Buddhist Association of Zhejiang, Chairman of The Buddhist Association of Hangzhou and Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan led a group of 24 people to the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada for a five-day cultural exchange at invitation.

On the morning of June 23, Ven. Guangquan and others paid a visit to UBC’s Asian Library, Department of Asian Studies and Nitobe Memorial Garden in the company of Professor Jinhua Chen from UBC. He then sat down with the students and faculty of the Department of Asian Studies for discussion.

On the afternoon of June 25, Ven. Guangquan delivered a themed speech “Internationalization of Buddhism—Transmission of Buddhism and Cultural Exchanges and Mutual Learning between the East and the West” at the lrving K. Barber Learning Center. About 200 people listened to the speech, including Deputy Consul General of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver Mr. Kong Weiwei and Culture Consul of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver Ms. Cai Jie.
