On the afternoon of June 11, an online opening ceremony for the 2022 English Training Course for Buddhist Sutra Lecturers was held at Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou. The training course is held by the Buddhist Association of China, co-organized by the Buddhist Association of Hangzhou, and undertaken by the Chinese Buddhism Sutra Exchange Center and Lingyin Temple.

Attendees at the site of Lingyin Temple included the Director of the Religious Department Branch One of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province Lou Jiantao, the Deputy Director of the Religious Department of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Shu Xiuming, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Buddhist Association of China and Director of the Chinese Buddhism Sutra Lecture Exchange Center Venerable Master Guangquan. The Deputy Director of the Buddhist Association of China Venerable Master Zongxing, together with more than 30 trainees from all parts of the country, also attended the opening ceremony online.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Buddhist Association of China and Director of the Chinese Buddhism Sutra Lecture Exchange Center Venerable Master Guangquan delivers a speech
On behalf of the Chinese Buddhism Sutra Exchange Center, Venerable Master Guangquan put forward the following proposals. First, all Buddhist disciples should take up the responsibility of promoting Buddhism and transmitting the fine traditional Chinese culture around the world. A global vision and high English proficiency will be of great help for Buddhism promotion. In addition, Buddhist disciples should carry out research into Buddhist classics and their translated versions in different languages so as to better interpret and transmit Buddhist thoughts in modern times. Finally, all trainees should be fully devoted to and make good use of this training course, following the class disciplines and course requirements. In this way, they shall greatly benefit from this training course and getting fully equipped for Buddhism promotion.
The 2022 English Training Course for Buddhist Sutra Lecturers would last 19 days, during which experts, scholars and Buddhist masters from different institutions or temples have been invited to offer a series of themed lectures and courses, such as “An Introduction to Classic Scriptures”, “Yogacara Thoughts”, “Madhyamika of Buddhism”, “History of Chinese Buddhism”, “English Writing”, “English Speaking”, “English Translation”, etc.
