The 9th Chinese Filial Piety Culture Festival Opens

On August 31, 2023, the 9th Chinese Filial Piety Culture Festival and the Annual Chinese Filial Piety Awards Ceremony were held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. This year, through activities such as the selection and awarding of the Annual Chinese Filial Piety Figures and the “Let Love Return Home” Family Reunion Action, the festival showcased the diverse aspects of contemporary Chinese filial piety culture, spreading the spirit of filial piety to every corner of the country.

After the public announcement, the official list of the “2023 Annual Chinese Filial Piety Individuals/Groups” was revealed and the awards were presented at the event. Among them were “Mr. Against the Wind” Luo Shujian, who completed 62 marathons while pushing his son with cerebral palsy on the wheelchair; rural teacher A-Liang-Zi-La, who used football to broaden the path to success for girls of the Yi nationality; 91-year-old Wang Kunsen, known as the “Trash Picking Scholarship” elderly, who dedicated over a decade to helping underprivileged students fulfill their college dreams; “Father Du” Du Cong, who gave up a high-paying job to dedicate himself to HIV/AIDS orphans and help them pave their life paths; “Post-95” internet celebrity and nursing home director Fan Jinlin, who uplifted the happiness of elderly people with a “new” approach; Changsha Butterfly Children’s Hospice, providing care and support for critically ill and terminally ill children under the age of 16 with a life expectancy of less than 6 months; Aite Ensemble in Shenzhen, illuminating the lives of “children of the stars”; an overseas Chinese philanthropic organization in Thailand - Poh Teck Tung Foundation, tirelessly engaging in cross-border, cross-race, cross-religion humanitarian assistance for people in need of help throughout various stages of human life; “Silver Hair Wisdom Broadcasting” group composed of grandparents with an average age of 77, spreading “hardcore knowledge” in the most trendy manner; Wuhan University of Engineering Science’s “Dream Fulfillment Project” team, offering free wedding photography for elderly people to fulfill their dream of wearing a wedding gown.

It is the power of these “exemplary figures” that showcases the true goodness and beauty of human nature through their sincere words and actions, collectively portraying the warm spirit of Chinese filial piety. 

The event was organized by the China News Service and Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou and undertaken by the Zhejiang branch of China News Service’s News Development Center, and the Zhejiang branch of China News Service International Communication Group. It also received support from China News, China Philanthropist, the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang in Zhejiang, Hangzhou Buddhist Association, Hangzhou Yunlin Charity Foundation, and Hangzhou Traffic and Economic Radio FM91.8.
