The Yunlin Cup Three-Player Weiqi Tournament is a traditional  event held by Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, which aims to provide opportunities for Weiqi players to compete with and learn from each other and to showcase the essence and charm of the Chinese Weiqi culture in modern times. In the 16th tournament this year, the latest Weiqi rules finalized by the China Weiqi Association were adopted. The players took the tournament as an opportunity to reflect on life and to truly understand their own minds in the process of choosing in a Weiqi game. As a cultural carrier, Weiqi has absorbed nourishment of different times and cultures in the cause of its development. Emperor Liangwu of the Southern Dynasties, who was a true believer in Buddhism, brought the game of Weiqi into Buddhist temples. From then on, “the sound of playing was heard in all temples”, and many monks used Weiqi as a means to meet their friends and promote the Dharma. Such venerable masters as Kumārajīva, Yixing and Daoji all affirmed that Weiqi was beneficial to the cultivation of Buddhism and they helped bring the game of Weiqi into the Buddhist culture, making it a way of practicing Buddhism.
