Li Xiangting's Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition

On April 29th, 2024, “High Mountains and Flowing Water – Li Xiangting's Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Tour (Zhejiang Stop)” opened at the Zhizhi Hall of Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou. This exhibition tour was guided by the China National Society for the Promotion of Arts and Culture, supported by the Honghuashe Charity Foundation, and organized by the China Guqin Library. The Abbot of Lingyin Temple Venerable Master Guangquan and Li Xiangting's daughter Li Pengpeng, along with guests from various sectors of society, attended the event.

During the opening ceremony, guests from the cultural, artistic, and musical spheres performed the Peking opera song "A Laugh on the Blue Sea"(Cang Hai Yi Sheng Xiao), recited the "Prologue to the Collection of Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion" (Lan Ting Ji Xu), and played the Guqin masterpiece "Flowing Water" (Liu Shui). Other performances at the ceremony also included demonstrations of Tai Chi, Chinese drums, calligraphy, and incense art, expressing congratulations and joy for the opening of Li Xiangting's Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition at Lingyin Temple.

Li Xiangting is a renowned Chinese Guqin master, distinguished professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, visiting professor at the University of Cambridge, honorary president of the Guqin Committee of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, and president of the Chinese Guqin Research Association. Since graduating from the Central Conservatory of Music in 1963 and staying on as a teacher, he has taught over four hundred students, both domestically and internationally, spreading his knowledge far and wide. As one of the most influential contemporary Guqin masters, Professor Li Xiangting has been dedicated to promoting and disseminating the art of Guqin. In 2007, he was recognized by the State Council as "Expert with Outstanding Contributions," and in 2009, he was honored with the title of "National Representative Inheritor of Intangible Cultural Heritage (Guqin Art)" by the Ministry of Culture.

The exhibition comprises three sections: Ink and Wash Painting, Poetic Guqin, and Artistic Inspiration, showcasing Professor Li Xiangting's paintings, calligraphy, correspondence manuscripts, record collections, and more. It also delves into his adherence to tradition, painting style, and artistic journey, fully embodying the spiritual essence and cultural origins of Professor Li Xiangting's artistic ideology.
