The Sixth World Buddhist Forum opened on the 15th of October in Ningbo. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Wang Huning stated that this year's forum, themed "Hand in Hand for Coexistence," showcases the openness and inclusiveness of Chinese Buddhism, promoting the inheritance and development of Buddhist culture globally and strengthening the exchange and mutual learning of human civilizations. He hoped that the Buddhist community will carry forward the fine traditions of Buddhism, gather positive and benevolent forces, adapt to the demands of the times in explaining the Buddhist doctrines and teachings, promote dialogue among different civilizations, advocate harmonious coexistence of different beliefs, and jointly contribute wisdom and strength for world peace and development as well as for the progress of human civilization.
The Sixth World Buddhist Forum is hosted by the China Buddhist Association and the China Religious Culture Communication Association, with the organizing committee in Zhejiang responsible for its execution. Approximately 800 representatives from 72 countries and regions, including Buddhist masters from the Buddhist community and experts and scholars in this field, are in attendance. During this event, there will be a main forum, sub-forums, a new media forum, a television forum, and an exhibition on Buddhist culture, among other activities.
