Abbot Venerable Guangquan of Lingyin Temple hosted the opening ceremony of Zhejiang International Huayan Cultural Festival as Vice Chairperson of the Zhejiang Buddhist Association and Chairperson of the Hangzhou Buddhist Association. Before the dignitaries from Zhejiang Province and municipal leaders, Abbot Guangquan welcomed the special guests in attendance--Buddhist Senior Dharma Masters and scholars from 29 countries including Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, United States, Russia, Australia, etc.
The Lishui municipal Longquan Grand Theatre was the site of this year's Zhejiang International Huayan Cultral Fesival. Venerable Master Guanquan opened with the well-wish message on behalf of the China Buddhist Association for this year's festivities. Chairperson of Lishui Buddhist Association and Abbot of Longquan Chongren Temple, Venerable Master Dayuan also sent his warm greetings to the crowd and special guests in attendance. The opening segment concluded with welcoming messages from Vice Chairperson The Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Ni Zhongyang, Zhejiang Provincial Buddhist Association Chairperson Venerable Master Yizhang, and Longquan Mayor Li Bolin.
Following the welcoming addresses was the feature performance of the evening, the premiere performance of the Buddhist musical dance piece, Acts on Vows, produced by the China Opera and Dance Performance Theatre of Beijing and performed by Chinese Opera Theatre Troupe.
The following morning, Venerable master Guangquan, Venerable Master Yizhang, Venerable Master Dayuan, Buddhist religious leader Venerable Bour Kry (Spritual Eminence Samdech Preah Sanghareach Bour Kry) of Cambodia, joined the tens of Dharma Masters in Buddhist rituals for Longquan Chongren Temple’s opening Ceremony for Hall of the Three Western Saints. The morning was festive with Dharma seekers and followers, a gathering upwards 30,000 came out for the joyous Buddhist event.
The 2013 Zhejiang International Huayan Cultral Festival was produced by the Zhejiang Buddhist Association, in association with Longquan Chongren Temple with the concept 'compassion in action and kindness, spreading proper ways' as theme.” Historically, Huanyan culture has always played a positive role in the development of Buddhist societies; Huanyan has also been a main symbol of Mahayana Chinese Buddhism Culture. Zhejiang International Huayan Cultural Festival thus began in vibrant fashion.
