Lingyin Temple Welcomes Dr. Luca Maris Scaratina

August 31, 2014-  Lingyin Temple welcomed the current Deputy Secretary-General of the International Council for Philosophy and Humanities Education, Dr. Luca Maris Scaratina from The University of Milan institute for Modern Languages, along with Dr. Supakwadee Amatayakul of The International federation of Philosophical Societies for goodwill visit. Dr. He Xiaowei, director of Hangzhou Wenlan Academic Institution organized this meeting, as Dr. Scarantino, who is representing the delegation tour to China in preparation for the 2018 International Summit of Philosophy, arrived with the group to Lingyin Temple as one of the featured cultural destinations for their tour.

Venerable Master Changfa received Dr. Scaratina and the group on behalf of Lingyin Temple, introducing the history of the temple and detailing the recent developments in cultural activities and endeavors to the special guests. During the tour of temple and through extensive exchange, Dr. Scaratina's group showed great interest for the passion of Chinese Buddhist culture dating back thousands of years, offering thorough questions on Buddhist views of the world, Buddhist views on life and existence. Intrigued by a shared Buddhist background, Dr. Supakwadee Amatayakul engaged in detailed discussions on Lingyin's history, legacy of humanities, architecture, and Buddhist sculptures along the way. With Venerable Master Changfa as guide, all delightfully entered Lingyin Temple's Main Mahavira Hall, where even Dr. Luca Scaratina experienced the traditional rituals in bowing and honoring the Buddha.

Upon farewell for the memorable exchange of goodwill for both sides, Dr. Scarantino emphasized his kind gratitude once more for such warm reception and grand tour of ancient representation for Eastern culture. For that heart-felt moment, he also extended his warm welcome for Abbot Guangquan to visit Italy, for the shared efforts of building and strengthening the foundation of global projects in humanities, cultural education, philosophy, religion, among many areas to build on this friendship.
