Yun Lin Scholarship and Teaching Award's ceremony for Peking and Nankai University

2012 Peking University “Yunlin Scholarship and Teaching Award” ceremony’s rostrum

On Dec 18, 2012, Venerable Guang Quan, Abbot of LingyinTemple, attended 2012 Peking University “Yun Lin Scholarship and Teaching Award” ceremony. The ceremony held in Zhongguanyuan Global Village at 4pm was hosted by Venerable Zhan Ru, professor of Peking University.

 Master Guang Quan delivered a speech after the award ceremony. He explained the purpose of establishing “Yun Lin Scholarship and Teaching Award” is to encourage teachers and students to further explore the connotation of China's traditional culture, as well as promoting it to the public. He hopes the propagation of China's traditional culture will make people understand the truth of "To do no evil, to do only good," at the same time, build a happy and harmonious society.

Teacher and student representatives were moved by Master Guang Quan’s speech. They said, "Lingyin Temple is a long-standing historical and cultural Buddhist monastery, it has survived hundreds of years and accumulated profoundhistorical and cultural heritage. Venerable Guang Quan has not only devoted his effort in conserving them but also actively support the country’s educational and cultural research." As the beneficiary students of “Yunlin Scholarship and Teaching Award”, they will live up to the expectation of Venerable Guang Quan, the university and teachers by studying hard to serve the country and community.

 

“Yun Lin Scholarship and Teaching Award” was established in Department of South Asian Studies, Peking University’s School of Foreign Language in 2010, specifically to reward young teachers and outstanding students. This year, a total of 55 teachers and students received “Yunlin scholarship and Teaching Award” worth RMB200, 000.

On Dec 19, 2012 Nankai University “Yun Ln Scholarship and Teaching Award” ceremony was held at the same venue. Venerable Guang Quan attended the ceremony and presented to awardees. Chen Hong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Nankai University and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts,has also attended the ceremony and presented Certification of Donation, together with Long Shu, published by NankaiUniversity to Venerable Guang Quan as a token of gratitude.
