On the morning of July 21, 2015, Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan led a group of about 140 people, including the Lingyin Sangha, Yunlin volunteers and lay Buddhist disciples from Shanghai, Beijing and Zhejiang Province, on a pilgrimage to Putuo Mountain. The massive group set out from the front gate  with the cool and refreshing breeze blowing from the sea, following the Buddhist ritual of bowing to the ground in a full prostration every three steps along the pilgrimage road up to the mountain. Such a pious pilgrimage trip with Ven. Guangquan himself leading is demonstrating the positive image of the Buddhist disciples and believers – diligent, righteous, self-disciplined and benevolent.

The pilgrimage to temples in the mountain is one means of practicing Buddhism, by which entrants to Buddhism can learn about the profound fundamentals of Buddhism in a simple way so as to cultivate the good roots. Moreover, arrogance and ignorance can be mitigated to make room for wisdom to grow.

There is a saying about the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China – gold Wutai, silver Putuo, copper Emei and iron Jiuhua. Neither the mugginess in July on Putuo Mountain nor the sudden heavy rain could slow the group, who marched on to the destination while chanting piously “Namo Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva” and brought the pilgrimage trip to a joyous conclusion.
