On the evening of August 22, the second Chan Meditation Camp held by Lingyin Temple came to a successful end after the lamp-passing dharma assembly.

Thousands of candle lamps elaborately arranged by the participants were lit at Dongyang Tianbao Temple in Zhejiang Province, passing and lighting the candle lamps along with the spirit of Buddhism. Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan hosted the ceremony and led the Buddhist masters and participants to pass the lamps and pray for all sentient beings.

Ven. Guangquan illustrated that the theme of this Chan meditation camp – “benevolence, inclusiveness and gratefulness” – is one core value of Buddhism. Benevolence is the inherent spiritual quality of human beings, which lays the foundation for people to get along with others. In a multicultural society, more inclusiveness means less trouble and conflicts no matter in social life or family life. Buddhism, as part of the traditional culture, helps people to understand what benevolence and wisdom can do and then put it into practice.
