A Drop of Water

Buddha asked his disciples, “How can a drop of water be kept from drying up?”

None of the disciples could answer.

Buddha said, “Put it into lakes, rivers or oceans.”

This also applies to one’s cultivation. If one secludes oneself in remote mountains for cultivation, the cultivation only benefits him instead of all others even if the enlightenment is successfully achieved. Is there any use of the cultivation? Therefore one should not detach himself from worldly distractions, but pursue his cultivation in the mundane world with a supramundane vision. Such a cultivation can benefit all others. Only in this way can one be filled with the highest happiness and the eternal bliss.
